But, Why?

Many people have asked us why we tried Whole 30.

The short answer is "We wanted to feel better."

Here are some examples of what I mean: I would wake up after sleeping for 8 hours or more and still be tired. I would immediately have to go sit on a heating pad when I woke up, because my hips hurt from lying on them while I slept. My feet hurt, too, and I never felt GOOD. I was angry a lot. I would get shaky and nauseated. I wasn't able to do my best, and I hated that more than anything. Kevin snored terribly, and would fall asleep as soon as he sat down sometimes.

We wanted to be able to play with our kids, and to set a healthy example for them. We wanted to feel better, so we could do better.

Our second mission trip was coming up, we had both turned 39 within the last few months, and then Kev found out that we could have potatoes on Whole 30. Seriously, once he had this info, he was good to go. We began June 1st, along with some friends; it was great to have the support as we went through it.

It wasn't always easy. Kev had a "hang-over" for the 1st few days. I accidentally licked peanut butter off the knife while making the kids' lunch SO many times. It was an adjustment, to say the least. But, we did it. And, a lot of the time, we enjoyed it. The kids did, too. They like seeing us cook together, and helping us.

Whole 30 potato noodles, devoured.

It changed the way we think about food completely. I don't know how else to describe that: in those 30 days everything we had ever thought about food changed.

That's something, too. This is only 30 days. One month. Four weeks. However you need to divide it up, it's not forever, and it's not supposed to be. The objective is to see how the food you eat affects you both physically and mentally.

(Sugar makes me angry. It does. If I find myself acting irrationally (more so than normal, that is) I can usually trace it back to some sugary thing. Also, bread and my stomach don't like each other.)

After your 30 days, you add in foods a little at a time so that you can see how they affect you. Then, you decide. Do you want to eat this or not? You know how you feel, and you make the choice.

This plan can reset your body, so that it works properly and your metabolism functions well. I lost weight consistently AFTER my 30 days, because my body began working the right way.

So, why?

I wanted to feel better, so I could do better, and I believe that I am a better wife, and mom. Kevin wanted to be a better dad and husband. He is an awesome dad, but 60 pounds lighter, he finally feels secure in it. He knows he can play with kids and do a better job keeping up with them. He is a great husband, too, and his companionship through this has been awesome. This journey helped make our marriage stronger, and it has really been amazing.

Your "why" may be different from ours, but it doesn't matter. Let us encourage you, please. If we can do this, you can do this, too. You can change your life. What are you waiting for?
