Rainy Saturday=Productive DIY Day
Saturday was pretty rainy, the kids were worn out from a late night with friends, and Kev was playing a gig. We're getting ready to start a Whole 30, so I needed to spend some time in the kitchen, and it ended up being a really productive day.
I made lotion for me and the kids. They both tend to be more susceptible to eczema during the summer, and Sis has very sensitive skin.
This is a whipped body butter. Honestly, I am usually too lazy to make these, but it is worth it to put in the extra effort even though it's a little more time consuming.
I took 1 Cup of coconut oil, 1/4 cup of cocoa butter, and 1 TBSP of bees wax pellets and melted them in a double boiler. Then place in the refrigerator until almost solid. Add essential oils of choice, and the amount is based on your personal preference. I use Frankincense, Peppermint, and Lavender for my kiddos. The Frankincense is good for overall well being and skin health. Peppermint has a great smell, helps repel bugs, and has a cooling sensation which is great in the summer. The Lavender is also an insect repellent, and has a calming effect on both the skin and the attitude.
I whipped everything together until it looked like very thick whipped cream, and then scooped it all into a container. (I'll be looking for a cute little glass something to put my next batch in) We put this cream on when we get out of the shower and it helps with our summer time skin issues, plus there is a little SPF in it which makes me feel good when we have time in the sun and don't have sunscreen readily available.
I also put together some bug sprays. The base is 2 ounces of Witch Hazel and 1 ounce of water. For Mosquito spray I use 8 drops of Lavender, Tea Tree, Citronella, Lemongrass, and Eucalyptus added to the Witch Hazel Base. To make Tick spray add Cedar Wood oil along with Tea Tree and Lavender, approximately 10 drops of each. We use the bug spray whenever we go outside, and the tick spray when we go for hikes. We also use the tick spray on our dog, Argo.
I'll be posting more DIYs soon.
I hope you have a great week and that you get a peek at some sunshine!
